• Date: Published 1614
• Size: 8 x 6.5 inches
• Notes: During the mid-1600s, a reprint of a 1614 psalm hymnal marked a significant part of the Church of England's ongoing efforts to make scripture more accessible in the common tongue. This initiative was a continuation of the English Reformation's broader efforts, which included the introduction of books of common prayer and hymnals aimed at fostering a more personal and communal engagement with religious texts. The King James Version (KJV) Bibles exemplified the prowess of English translators, printers, and writers. These editions, particularly the psalms, are celebrated not only for their religious significance but also for their literary quality, blending prose and poetry. The KJV remains one of the most popular and enduring Bible editions to this day, testament to its impact and the skill involved in its creation.
